King Louis XVIII, also
Count of Provence organized a grand festivity at the Tuileries in
Paris.
To « enchant » his guests, he invited the vintners of
Provence and their sun-gorged joy-bringing crus…
An original costume
The vintners,
conscientious of the honor the King bestowed upon them, chose an
adequate wear: frock coat, vest, top hat…all in symbolic colors:
gold in respect of the King and « lie de vin » the color of wine.
They kept the pants white, a tradition of Provence.
A qualitative selection
Before leaving for Paris,
the vintners tasted each wine with care and selected the best rosé,
red and white for the royal festivity.
A royal proclamation
The luncheon was a
success and everyone was surprised by the quality of the wines from
Provence.
The king, overjoyed,
proclaimed to the Provencal vintners: “Enchanters”
Since then, each year the Brotherhood
renews the ritual of “l’Enchantelage” by selecting the
crus respecting the characteristics of Côtes de Provence thus the
best of each vintage.
